Nuchal Translucency Measurements

monday, 08 feb 2010

Just interested to hear other peoples opinions on the joint HGSA and RANZCOG statement (2009) that now has a guideline stating that "professionals working in diagnostic imaging and measuring nuchal translucency .. be credentialled .. in the measurement of the nuchal translucency."
While it is not yet a medicare requirement to be credentialled to perform a nuchal measurement, this statement is being used by RANZCOG to enforce operator credentialling, at a cost to individuals or businesses ... operator fee $70pp, software fee per site, audit fee per year, and online course fee $165pp. Seems like there is a monopoly situation happening here, as no-one else is able to offer the online program, and the number of sonographers in Aust x $165ea is a lot of money!!
While I have no issue with sonographers being properly trained (via the online course) to perform a measurement, I am interested to hear of other peoples experiences in dealing with RANZCOG and having to pay them for the ongoing privelege of using software, doing an audit, paying for each operator, all for an examination that attracts no additional MBS fee.
Why is it that a nuchal measurement has become any more or less important than some of the other measurements or examinations that we do in an ultrasound department?

Lateral Elbow Injections

thursday, 28 jan 2010

Hi, Just wondered what sort of protocols are being used for injection of the lateral epicondyle and CET origin. What is injected, the volume, how is patient positioned, post procedure care?

Cheers.
