Are you passionate about upholding the standards of sonography practice in Australia? Following ratification of changes to both our Constitution and Code of Professional Conduct, the ASA’s complaints handling process will commence on 1 July 2010. This is a final call for Expressions of Interest from sonographers wishing to participate on the Disciplinary Committee or to join a pool to hear Appeals when/if necessary. Further details on these opportunities are now available from the dedicated Complaints web page or by contacting Elaine Trevaskis – CEO on p: 03 9585 2996.

Annual financial reporting In keeping with our statutory requirements, the audited annual financial report of the Association is now available via the members’ area of the ASA website. To receive a hard copy of this report please contact the ASA National Office. A detailed annual report highlighting the Association’s achievements during 2009/10 is currently in production and will be circulated to members in due course.
‘Snapshot of sonography’ – survey coming soon The ASA is the only Australian organisation dedicated to protecting and advancing the interests of all sonographers. Your participation in this important project will ensure the ASA can inform members of workplace trends while also providing valuable information to ensure the ASA can continue to lobby government, educators and regulators on your behalf. Keep an eye out for the online survey in June and assist us in working towards a sustainable future for all sonographers.
The Competency Framework for Sonographers – deadline for feedback extended The ASA thanks all those sonographers who have submitted comments on the consultation draft of The Competency Framework for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers – your input is most valuable. We did however receive requests for extension to the original deadline and therefore welcome further feedback submitted on or before Friday 25 June. Occupational Burnout among Medical Imaging Professionals in Australia A study is currently being undertaken through the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences at Monash University to investigate the level of burnout among all medical imaging professionals in Australia. The ASA encourages members to contribute to this study by completing the online survey.
The Australasian Conference on Error in Medical Imaging Making Imaging Safer Sydney 11 – 12 November 2010 The Conference will tackle issues specific to Medical Imaging including national and international perspectives on key safety issues, lessons from a medical imaging incident reporting system, types of errors that occur and their impact on patients, medico-legal implications of adverse events and how you can make your practice safer. ASA2010 Melbourne 28–30 May- Last chance to register ASA2010 Melbourne, is the premier event for the ASA and features a comprehensive range of topics, live scanning workshops, trade exhibitions and networking for sonographers.
Momentum is building in the lead up to ASA2010 Melbourne with registrations streaming in, we have a number of new sponsors and exhibitors who have also joined us for our 17th Annual National Conference.

SIG2010 Sydney – 21-22 August 2010 Tailored to suit sonographers specialising in musculoskeletal sonography and women’s imaging, this year’s annual Special Interest Group seminar returns to the popular two-day format. Mark these dates in your diary – the finishing touches are being put to the education program and more details will be available on the ASA website in the coming days.
Travelling Workshops 2010/11 - dates for your diary The ASA Travelling Workshops promote best practice in sonography by providing continuing education and a forum for communication.
